Thanks for another Friday Five! I always enjoy your posts. Patience -- ugh! Waiting -- the worst! I hear you. It's really hard to sit still! I wish you all the best in your Wait and See Era. Sincerely hope that the waiting pays off for you and your readers (yes, selfishly, including myself as a reader. I love your novels).
Hi! I just found your blog after a deep dive of "I wonder what Sarah Dessen is up to??". This is really random, but I just want you to know how much your writing impacted me growing up! I started reading your books when I was about 10 and fell in love with all of your stories and characters. I'm 25 now and I'm still constantly searching for books that make me feel the same way that Along for the Ride, Dreamland, or Just Listen did. Thank you so much for all that you have written, and for all that you continue to write :)
In other news: I'm glad that you're into doing the Wordle! My boyfriend does it religiously every morning (along with every other NYT game) and I'll hear him shout with excitement when he gets it in two or three tries. There's just something so fun about puzzles, and the feeling of success when you're right about an answer!
Ah, ye olde panic productivity. It bites me in the ass every time. It has taken me 45 years to even see it— hoping I can learn to resist it at some point!!
It's hard to do nothing for me too! It's hard to trust. I think we just want to know what happens, even if it's bad, because once you know the ordeal is over and you can begin to accept and move on.
I missed these! Such good points, and sometimes I think it’s the fear of the unknown that pushes you towards it. You so badly want to know what will happen that you’re rushing to get past the unknown to find out.
At least we have a little break and some actual rain! I had hoped to see some of the filming but am remote most days in summer, and just had my parking disrupted once due to street closures. And those students are almost here, I’ve had to help parents find their orientation room a couple of times. Trying to enjoy the pace myself.
I so get that- when I'm incredibly afraid, I'll do everything I can to get the situation (or even another irrelevant situation. Just SOMETHING) over with as soon as possible, even to my own detriment. Also- if you're enjoying Wordle, I bet you'd enjoy MovieGrid! You basically guess movies that have certain things in common, it's fast and easy and fun. I've been playing it a lot when I'm having a hard time sleeping!
Every post seems to come at THE right time for me and say exactly what I need to hear. How do you do that?! 💖
“Like I owed it money or something” really cracked me up!

I can't tell you how absolutely giddy I am that these posts are back. I always looked forward to them each week. ❤️
As I get older I seem to have less patience. I used to be a very patient person. Not sure why it changed.

This saying is on the wall when we come into the house:
“Breathe. Take care.
Stand still for a minute.
What you are looking for
might just be looking for you too.”

I needed to hear #5 more than you’ll ever know. I am a lot of things but a patient person is not one of them!
🤍
