It’s July 14, which means we are in the juicy middle of summer. This is the time I always write Big Things Happening in my books, plot twists and change. In real life, however, it’s hot and things are moving s-l-o-w-l-y. I’ve developed a Dollar Tree obsession and started up yoga again, neither of which anyone would probably want to read about in a novel. All I really want to do is sit outside and look at my garden, which makes me, I believe, officially OLD. It looks so nice, though! Especially at night.
This week I also ventured over to Threads, because everyone else was doing it. So fun to see so many long-lost friends. As some of you may, um, know, there was a time when I loved Twitter. Years, actually! I met so many cool people and felt like part of something bigger, which is my favorite. Then I did something stupid and ruined it all in one week. This was almost four years ago, and the experience began a process that has changed me entirely. The biggest mistakes are the best teachers, and I am still learning. And now I will go look at my garden again.
Speaking of social media, I’m getting a lot of good questions from various places. So, for those who have asked: yes, I am a Swiftie. Hard to pick a favorite, but Folklore wrecked me and Seven makes me cry just with the opening notes. Second question: the movies. We have a great script and director for This Lullaby, but Netflix politely declined to move forward with other books they’d optioned so we’re back on the hunt. This movie stuff, I swear. It’s like the best cupcake in the WORLD but you never have any control about when you get it. One day, it just shows up. Or it doesn’t. Oh, well.
I continue to work through my stuff (see #2) with miniatures. I guess sometimes the art picks you? Anyway, this week I decided I needed some gorgeous healthy plants that I did not have to worry about actually keeping alive. I mean, who doesn’t want a nice shelf of nature by the window? Mine is just, well, kind of small. I left myself a cold drink just in case.
These days it’s either incredibly hot or pouring, so I’ve been catching up a lot on TV. I continue my obsession with 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way. The universe of this show is endless, y’all. It just goes on and on! We also devoured Platonic on AppleTV, which was fantastic. (I both want to look like Rose Byrne and be her best friend. Is that weird?) As a bonus, it led me to start listening to Seth Rogan’s Yearbook on audio, which is SO FUN. It’s like driving around with your funniest friend riding shotgun, telling all their best stories. And of course TODAY the second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty hits Amazon. I’d be obsessed even if I hadn’t been fortunate enough to get to cheer on Jenny Han as she made this dream a solid, amazing reality. I love seeing good people do well! Here’s a pic of me, Jenny and Siobhan Vivian (now a writer on XO, Kitty) about a zillion years ago at a teen book festival in Austin. Memories!
Have a good weekend, everyone!
